Silverfish is about creating the right environment for doing good business
online. It's about consolidated solutions - finding them, implementing them;
making them work hard and smart and fast.
With its extensive list of features and applications, Silverfish enables the
developer to hand pick and include only those components that are relevant to
the site being developed. It simply depends on what functionality is necessary
to create the right business environment. Additional functionality can then
seamlessly be added at a future date, at the click of a mouse, in real time, as
and when the need arises.
General
Application architecture
Use the Silverfish application for MS Windows to design, maintain, update
and manage your website. The Silverfish engine dynamically creates Web
pages as they are requested, allowing site changes to be reflected immediately
online.
Platform support
Silverfish runs on the MS Windows 98, 2000 or NT platforms and will soon be
available on Linux and Free BSD. It also seamlessly links to an ODBC-compliant
database such as MySQL or MSSQL Server.
Speed
Silverfish provides high-speed browse, search, purchase and customer services
functions online, linking the customer to your system using CGI. A move to
NSAPI/ISAPI, which will further increase performance, is coming soon.
Catalogue
Customisable product characteristics
Identify and define product characteristics that both describe and distinguish
grouped individual products. Multiple product categories may be configured and
created, each with different data types (text, numeric etc.) so as to account
for an infinite array of different products.
Multi-tier catalogue
Set up the product catalogue in a hierarchical structure, building layers of
department-style categories and creating an easy-to-navigate product offering.
Inheritance
Use inheritance to rapidly create new product categories and to ensure data integrity.
Quick and full search
Use powerful online and application search functionality to find products either by
name or by the individual product characteristics that define them.
Inventory management
Track inventory levels for each product, individually specifying whether zero
inventory products are hidden, displayed or sold (with or without a low
inventory warning).
Tax
Choose from multiple tax models to support no tax, single-rate local tax, zero-rate
international tax or a flat tax rate on all purchases. Products may also be deemed
tax exempt.
Special discounts
Apply special discounts to individual products, as well as to promote the site.
Customers
Customer groups
Identify and define customer characteristics that describe customers in multiple
customer groups. Allow customers to group themselves during online registration.
Customer authentication
Authenticate customers automatically, through email or manually, providing your
business with the necessary control to manage your customer base.
Customer tracking
Track login counts, favourites, purchases, searches, billing and shipping addresses
for each customer.

Individually manage customers, updating, deleting or even reinstating customer records.

Online subscriptions
Create an income flow through online customer registration and subscriptions
purchase. Define subscription costs and durations, allowing multiple subscriptions
to be owned simultaneously, with each being valid after the expiry date of the

Brokering
Third party sales
Create product categories and allow customers to sell their own products online,
from your site. Validated customers may submit products for sale at a fixed price,
or may create auctions for their products.
Third party tendering
Create product categories and allow site customers to create reverse (purchase)
auctions for products or service contracts. The auction's ruling price drops as
customers tender lower price floors. When the auction closes, the cheapest seller
is identified and a purchase takes place between the two parties.
Posting fees
Charge customers to place products for sale on your website. Specify posting fee
amounts as a flat rate fee or a percentage of the purchase price. Charge fees
either at the time of posting or at the time of purchase.

Use a Silverfish auction to sell site products to the highest bidder.
Third party auctions
Allow site customers to create custom auctions, charging the customer a posting
fee at the time that the auction closes.
Price ceilings and floors
Use price ceilings and price floors to automatically calculate bid amounts, emailing
each customer when their price ceiling/floor has been exceeded.
Confirmation emails
Automatically send confirmation emails to both the purchasing and the selling parties

delivery to account for special packaging, increased risk etc.
